I have definitely got the cycling bug ... but I have to say it has taken it's toll on me this week. Or so it seemed this morning. I felt sick when I woke up and felt that I had a bit of a temperature. I was also feeling knackered after this unaccustomed exercise. Should I battle on and cycle in today or should I rest and take the car?
I opted for the car. Especially as I was already a bit late for work this morning and as no one else was going to be in early I thought it was the best option.
Cycling is much better when you are feeling well. I love the closeness to nature (at least until I get into town). Yesterday there were pheasants on the cycle path. Not a problem when you are cycling as things are much slower than in a car. Pheasants on the road when I drive to work are a bit of a nuisance as the damn things won't get out of the way. They just seem to take their time. Whether they'd actually move if I didn't slow down for them I don't know. However the point is the situation is totally different when you are on a bike - you can easily skirt round them.
I enjoy the autumn mists of a morning and the low, strong sunlight, the cool chill air, the smell of damp earth and leaves. You miss all that in a car. People can say hello when you pass them on a bike. You are part of the place not just passing through isolated.
I've been trying out one of our products, the hi-vis rucksack. You can see it in the picture. I don't particularly like carrying stuff on my back when I'm cycling. I'm looking out for some hi-vis panniers and I've got plans to set up a cycling section on our website. So if anyone knows where I can get hi-vis panniers let me know.
